As previously mentioned, throughout this project, the exploration and discovery turned into more of a call to action more so than a way to gain insight into the text. Of course, I am not the first to discover the importance of students seeing themselves in their texts. Further, as Matt del Pena claimed at NCTE 2014, "We don't just need diverse books for inner city kids. We need them for the white kid whose dad is a doctor."
